About Mr. Cantu

Mr. Joseph Cantu possesses a Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics with a minor in Chemistry which he obtained from Lamar University in May of 2011. During his undergraduate career, Mr. Cantu worked in the Student Affairs division of Lamar University as a student director assisting with the coordination of various programs such New Student Orientation, Week of Welcome, Freshman Year Experience and many more.

 

In August of 2012 Mr. Cantu began his professional career as an educator at Central High School for Beaumont ISD. During this time, Mr. Cantu decided to return to Lamar and in August of 2014 he obtained his Masters in Education in Educational Technology degree.

 

Currently, he is the Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus teacher at Ozen High School for Beaumont ISD. Working as an educator has provided him with the experience to work with students, faculty, staff, and parents/guardians of all different types of background. In addition, he is the department head for the mathematics team at Ozen which has allowed him to interact more with fellow educators who share the same passion in the mathematics discipline. At the moment, Mr. Cantu is working on his Principal Certification to add onto his list of certifications. He is also currently working on his doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) at Texas Tech University. His future plan is to open a gifted and talented school or a STEM school in the Golden Triangle area.
